Over the years, staff strengthens to more than 70 employees with significant jump in revenues. Our Management

Mr. Venkatesan Ramani

Mr. Venkatesan Ramani has been associated with the maternal and child nutrition sector since 2001. As a senior IAS officer of the Maharashtra Government, he associated with UNICEF in developing and implementing strategies for reducing child malnutrition in the Marathwada region of Maharashtra. He was instrumental in setting up Maharashtra's Rajmata Jijau Mother Child Health and Nutrition Mission, the first Nutrition Mission of its kind in India, in 2005. The Mission started a number of initiatives to reduce child malnutrition in Maharashtra. An independent third party survey (Comprehensive Nutrition Survey of Maharashtra) undertaken in 2012 under the auspices of the Government of Maharashtra and UNICEF established that the efforts between 2005 and 2012 had led to a reduction of almost 40% in under-2 child stunting. Over the past seven years, since he took voluntary retirement from the government, Mr. Ramani has advised governments, corporates and nonprofits on issues relating to reduction of child malnutrition. He has brought out a document "The Maharashtra State Nutrition Mission - Learning by Doing" detailing the strategy and initiatives adopted by the Mission in its first five years (2005-10) and the lessons learnt. In recognition of his efforts, Mr. Ramani has been selected as one of the ten Transform Nutrition Champions 2016 worldwide by the Transform Nutrition Consortium, comprising five international research and development partners led by the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), Washington DC, USA. He is also a contributor to newspapers and brings out his own blog (The Gadfly Column), a look at public policy matters and public affairs. Mr. Ramani is passionately committed, apart from maternal and child health and nutrition, to issues of inclusive growth and economic development.

Mr. Raj Gautam Mitra

Mr. Raj Gautam Mitra, an International Consultant on Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS), Mr. Mitra started his career by joining the Indian Statistical Service in September 1981, a specialized civil service to manage statistical systems in the Central Government. During 25 year of his service in Government of India he held senior positions including the Head of the Civil Registration Division and Head of Census Division in the Office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner. He contributed significantly in revamping the CRVS system in India and successfully conducted the 2001 Census in India. During his tenure in UNICEF from 2005 to 2010 he supported Government of India in strengthening major data systems that produce data on child related indicators. He worked in United Nations Economic Commission for Africa from 2010 to 2016 during which he led an Africa programme on CRVS and coordinated programmes on Population and Housing Census, Gender Statistics and Statistics on Development Indicators. Prior to retirement in November 2017, he worked as an Inter-regional adviser and contributed in the area of SDG indicators, statistical training, household surveys and in measurement of quality and completeness of CRVS systems. Since his retirement Mr. Mitra has completed or working on a number of international consultancy assignments on CRVS with a number of organizations namely, Centre of Excellence on CRVS, UNICEF, Vital Strategies, GIZ, ESCAP and Plan International.

Mr. Gopalan Balagopal

Mr. Gopalan Balagopal, a retired IAS, served in State and Central Government in different capacities in the field and at the State and Central government offices. He has been associated with different UN organs for providing valuable support on social sectors issues. As Chief, Child Protection, UNICEF Bangladesh, Dhaka, he established and led the first unit in the country for protection of children. Organized birth registration initiatives that laid the foundations of later work of UNICEF in this area. As a Senior Adviser, Child Protection, UNICEF Headquarters, New York, he was responsible globally for guiding UNICEF’s work in protection of Children from Violence, Abuse and Exploitation. As UNICEF Representative, DPR Korea, Pyongyang, he was responsible for leading and managing UNICEF’s work in North Korea. As an independent International Consultant, he has been associated with many distinguished works, such as, Support to UNICEF ESAR and the Economic Commission of Africa in developing and implementation of the Africa Programme for Accelerated Improvement in Civil Registration and Vital Statistics, a major initiative for strengthening of civil registration in Africa (continuing since early 2010).
